Cheat’s Tavern
Cheat’s Tavern was a pop-up restaurant inspired by the cuisine of West Virgina. Specifically, it aimed to capture the essence of Morgantown, a small town on Cheat River with a large German population and historic links to coal mining. As one of three designers tasked with bringing this concept to fruition, I created a logo and collateral for the restaurant. The lantern logo is reminiscent of the coal mines, as well as being inviting and comforting. Behind the lantern is the forest of West Virginia. This logo was then put on stickers, posters, social media, and even a punch card.
Before sketching, I researched the culture and cuisine of the state. The forest landscape in particular was manifested in the design as a row of hand-drawn trees, populating the restaurant’s branding. Every aspect of Cheat’s Tavern, including the stickers, posters, and social media posts, exemplify the warm, welcoming spirit of West Virginia.
